man, ben gibbard must be kicking himself right now for not copyrighting his own voice.

finally got around to checking out the much-buzzed about Owl City, and i’m really a fan, but it took me a little while to get over the fact that this guy adam young sounds like he sat in his room listening to Death Cab and Postal Service for hours, trying to exactly mimic the mildly affected way in which ben gibbard sings.

but once past that, he’s really a slightly catchier, slightly cheesier postal service, which is totally fun. his song “hot air balloon” is kinda like postal service plus “hakuna matata." i think i mean that in a good way.

Only 30 minutes into re-watching this early 90’s masterpiece, but color me Delighted.

If you’ve ever wanted to see what an actor looks like when they’re in a movie they don’t want to be in, just check out Burt Reynolds in this thing. Busted Burt’s performance is hilarious on so many levels. And tiny Norman D. Golden II is adorable.

i watched with katie, who made an amazing tilapia/spinach/wild rice dinner and totally calmed me down as i was freaking my balls off (episode reference unintended) right as the episode began. once i saw a couple of my scenes and decided they weren’t horrible, i felt much better. but man, very surreal to feel nervous for a performance that already happened.

Remember 2 months ago, when I confidently and proudly declared that I was 300 pages into this book? Well, yeah, apparently posting that gave me license to “take a little breather,” and now I am still at 300 pages, having read a bunch of… — Remember 2 months ago, when I confidently and proudly declared that I was 300 pages into this book? Well, yeah, apparently posting that gave me license to “take a little breather,” and now I am still at 300 pages, having read a bunch of other books in the meantime.

Sigh. I failed.

Unless I pick the book back up. Which maybe I will. It is kind of an amazing book, but it makes you work harder than any book I’ve ever read. It’s a book that is, like, messing with your head the whole time you’re reading it, with some long-ass descriptive sections that seem to go nowhere but (you hope) ultimately will pay off. But also might not.

In other news, one of the books I picked up while putting this down was Twilight, which seriously has got to be the exact opposite of Infinite Jest in terms of reading challengeability, and yet, I found them equally hard to get through. And, somewhat ironically, I am stalled out in Twilight at the exact same spot, 300 pages in. It hurts my brain.

Board Game: The Movie

The game Battleship is about to become a movie directed by Peter Berg. I can’t wait for the intense battle scene where they’re yelling at each other about what they’ve sunk.

And:

“Aside from "Battleship” and “Stretch Armstrong,” U is separately developing “Clue” with Gore Verbinski, “Monopoly” with Ridley Scott, “Candyland” with director Kevin Lima, and “Ouija” with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.“

Some things:

1. Clue as a movie? Yeah, right!

2. So glad Michael Bay’s involved with the Ouija movie; I’d hate to see it handled by some hack who couldn’t properly execute the necessary psychic explosions.

3. Russell Crowe is gonna be so awesome as the Monopoly Guy.
